eek

My friend and co-volunteer at St. Luke's Hospice shop, Mavis, and me this morning.  She (Mavis) puts prices on the clothes that are donated to us at 248 Blouberg Road.

Hi all!  How is your day?

It is a lovely sunny and warm day here in Blouberg today (I feel bad saying that when some of the places on the east coast of America are under water from the recent weather events).

There are Only 20 days from tomorrow until my 32nd Birthday. EEK! Oh well, time and tide wait for no man and all that jazz!?!  It is a volunteer Wednesday morning on my Birthday (21 November) this year. The last one on a volunteering Wednesday morning was in 2007.  I will have to bake a cake, I like baking, and we all bring some cake on our birthday at 248, aren't we civilized?

OMG I just realized that today is the last day of October for 2012. And then the penny dropped?

BBC Knowledge had a programme from the interesting series, Leaving the Amish, on DStv last night.  Glad I am of a different Christian Denomination?  It's the beard thing, the straw hat and the lack of electricity that put me off becoming Amish!?!  I love my mod cons and there is no internet or telly either in Amish Houses.

Anyway unfortunately I have said it all for today.  Have a wonderful Wednesday further folks!

Coast Guard official: Hurricane Sandy 'could be bad, or it could be devastation'

By Greg Botelho, CNN
October 29, 2012 -- Updated 0213 GMT (1013 HKT)
People stand on the beach watching the heavy surf caused by the approaching Hurricane Sandy, on Sunday, October 28, in Cape May, New Jersey. Hurricane Sandy is expected to hit the New Jersey coastline sometime on Monday, bringing heavy winds and floodwaters.

Hi all!  It's really terrible this Hurricane!  What has happened in the world.  Mother nature is not happy?

I have added a link to my other blogs in my blog features.  More traffic is never a bad thing?  I have only added it (these links) to my alifenotlikeyours blog so far but give it time!  We are a one man show?  (me!)

It is a nice sunny but very windy day here in Bloubergstrand today.

My mom is watching CNN at the moment downstairs, I can here it in the study upstairs?!?  I do not have much to post on my blogs today.  I think the enormity of Hurricane Sandy has my attention today.  The majority of my blog readers are from the USA , I do hope you are all safe?

Keep safe folks?

Sundrenched Saturday

I love chocolate.  While in Europe last month, I tried to not eat any chocolate and I succeeded! If chocolate is not  on your mind you don't want it!?!  I had one piece of my Aunt Margaret's Galaxy bar  in the UK and no more, apart from a little chocolate bar in my Nephews stash of Sweets, I lost 2 or 3 KG not eating chocolate and rushing around for public transport in Europe.  Now I am back home in South Africa, I am trying but not to eat any.  If I start eating the stuff I always want more!

Today's weather, this pic from the newspaper was the right way when I scanned and cropped it but my blog editor turned it upside down!  Really!  Sunny and warm here today!  Lovely!

One of my blog followers sent me a whole pile of photos he took on the streets of New York.  I guess it would be rude not to use them?  I really like them too but I was last in America in 1983 age 2/3, so any of these black and white photos from NY  you know I wasn't the photographer!

My mom and sister Claire in Amsterdam, this photo was taken 2 days before we flew home from Amsterdam, while on the way to meet my friend Jaqui,  I took it with my Mobile phone's camera.  A good pic!

Hi all!  How is your last Saturday for October 2012?

The bacon salad I made for dinner last night was scrumptious. Really easy to make too,  and I suppose you could use Turkey Bacon if Pork is not your thing!  Warm Bacon Salad

Apparently women who smoke shorten their lifespan by 20 years!  A reason not to puff away.  I am very anti-smoking, why?  I used to sit next to a man having chemotherapy for lung cancer at the Oncology Centre.  I only saw him for 3 or 4 weeks and then no more.  Smoking really gives me a bad head if somebody is smoking near me too!  It is equated to breathing in the  fumes from your exhaust pipe of your car (the toxins in cigarettes) So why, oh why would you do it?

Mom and I went to Eden on the Bay this morning and rented the DvD "30 minutes or less" it sounds like a good film.  The car guard said I haven't seen you for a while, welcome back.  His name is Freddy and I know his name because we are there quite often and so I asked him his name.    The cashier in Pick 'n pay said I have not seen you around for a while, how are you?  So I am well known I guess.   A bit of a local celeb?  I guess you couldn't miss me if you saw me, I am unique!   A good thing!

Anyway folks it's been swell having y'all reading my blog postings.  Please continue reading them and come back for more?  Tell 10 friends?  I have said this before however,I really do think the power of ten is super, tell ten friends and if they tell 10 more people about my blogs well who knows I could be a supper dupper blogger?

Thursday

This fetching photo of Queen Victoria is  from Scarborough, Englad.

I truly believe that!

The recipe I am cooking on Friday night.  It been a week since I cooked anything!   Too long?!?

Hi all my blog followers!  How is your Thursday?

It is a warm and sunny day here in Blouberg today.  Below are the predicted weather forecast temperatures for Cape Town from the DsTv weather service.

Cape Town  14/22 C
Amsterdam   8/12 C
London        12/17 C

Goodness it's great to be home!  I have shorts and a T-shirt on and the sky is not grey!  How anyone survives Europe's miserable weather year after year is anyone's guess.  Ok South Africa has quite a few problems but at least the sun will come out tomorrow!  Ne Annie!  (not so Annie!)

That's all from me for today folks!  Have a superb day further!

Wednesday

What a diferrence from one Wednesday to the next?

Last Wednesday morning I left a cold Amsterdam Schipol Airport

Flew for 11 and a half hours and arrived in Cape Town

Where it is sunny and 35 degrees C today. I went back to my volunteering job at 248 Blouberg Road this morning. (photo: our shop at 11 ish this morning when there were not too many customers at the time.  They all come on mass at one point then nobody for a while and when I left at 1 pm the shop was full to bursting point with shoppers!)

Hi all!  I hope you are having a super day!

From one Wednesday to the next?!?

Last night there was a really interesting documentary on Dstv about an Amish family in America, "Growing up Amish."  I think I will stick to being a Catholic, we can drive cars, use electricity and nobody has to have a "different" style of beard!

I am cooking a warm bacon salad recipe for this week's dish, that I cook  weekly.  It sounds like a very yummy dish?  Warm bacon on cold salad?

Anyway not much to report today.  Surprise, surprise though, the road works on Blouberg Road are still in progress, Africa runs on its own time!  I have not been to our shop in a month and there has not been much construction of the new road works in a month!

Anyway that's all from moi for my blog posts for ajourdoui.  Have a fantastic day further folks and when in doubt leave it out!  (I never understood that saying?!?)

new mobile number 0749306209

This is from the sign at the Cedar Court Hotel, to put on your hotel door, but hillarious?

Meeow?
Hi all!  How is your Tuesday?

It is a super sunny and warm day here in Bloubergstrand today!

I had to buy another SIM card for my mobile phone today.  This is about the fifth one I have bought.  I've had Cell C(twice before), MTN (once only), Vodacom (2 or 3 times), KPN (Dutch mobile service while in the Netherlands) and Orange (while in England recently) and an 8ta sim card  (since my return home from Europe last week Wednesday at 9pm) for a while until today!
I do hope this will be my last cellphone SIM  for a bit!?!

Yesterday there was a St. Luke's hospice shop tea party for the 248 volunteers, held at the church that I attend on Sundays(The Parish of the Resserection Church in Jansens Avenue) .  I only found out after the event, so I was not in attendance!  It is off for my 3 hour volunteer shift at 248 Blouberg Road tomorrow for me though.  I did miss it, and especially my co-volunteers.  I brought them all a little something back from the Netherlands, but seeing as how 3 of them regularly read my blog postings, "I know nothing my dear!"  I love that saying!  It sounds a bit girly but I did here it on a documentary on an Italian cruise ship, and the cruise director was the one who said it, not me!

Anyway on that happy thought I shall announce that this is all from me regarding blogging for today.  Have a terrific Tuesday further folks!

Monday mention

I only read 1 or 2 books on average per year, books are not really my thing!  Easier to watch the book when it becomes a movie?

I so prefer my twitter to FB

Two weeks and the US elections will have decided who the new president of the USA is!  Go Mitt!  My presidential candidate for the next term of office.
Hi all of my daily/weekly/monthly or otherwise blog readers.

It is a delightful, sunny and warm day, here in the Western Cape today.  This morning I saw the cold grim morning in London, on Sky News, during a live crossing to their journalist there.  Been there, done that (cold and wet European weather) until next time!  It is 32 degrees C on Wednesday!!!! (just reported on E news, I was watching the E-news channel in Scarborough one morning, interesting how the world is so localized these days, you can watch a news channel broadcast from South Africa in the north of England!  Aye up?

My Aunty Mary phoned from Leeds this morning, to tell us that she got the Happy Birthday Messages we left on her answering machine yesterday.  She has been celebrating her birthday for months now.  The day after her party at the Village Hotel, in Leeds, we had a celebration at her home in Holt Park.  (I have always loved her home, it is so neat and compact and there is always a warm and friendly atmosphere there!)  She said, "when you are planning events like a big birthday celebration, you have to decide if after it is all over was it worth it, you get a tremendous let down when all the celebrating is over, but it's always better to celebrate occasions than not to."  I agree.   Anyway it is cold, wet and windy in Leeds today.  BRRR

Tomorrow it is off to 248 Blouberg Road for my 3 hour, 10am until 1pm volunteering job.  I visited three or four charity shops while I was in the UK, there are so many of them in England. Our shop at 248 is on a par with the shops I visited, but I do think we need a computer (for sales, it keeps a more accurate account?) and a fitting room (we did have one, but we had to let it go, as we have just too many shoplifters if there is a fitting room!  Why?  Somebody once said to me, "but it is a charity shop, so why do people take goods without paying for them?"  Maybe they think charity means mahala (free)?

Well that is all the pearls of widom from me for today.  Have a super day further folks!

Signing off for alifenotlikeyours, myamazingjournee and dave-anotherblog for this afternoon.

A note for Saturday

My Aunty and Mom saw this book for sale one day in Scarborough, when I was there last month.  It has my Grandad, John Roddam and his barge The Tony in the list of Bargemen.   A book to keep!

The bargemen were called Pilots, here are two of the other kind of pilots!
Hi all!  How is your Saturday?  Last Saturday I was in a cold and rainy Amsterdam, today I am in a warm and sunny Cape Town.  The difference in weather is huge! Last week I had a jacket on and a woolly hat, today I have a T-shirt on, and it is still a bit cool so I do have jeans on!  But hey I got sunshine a major bonus?!?

I loved seeing all my family during my time in The Netherlands and England.  If only they had better weather?  It is like the comedian said freezing outside but a furnace inside, you never ever feel comfortable, you are either too cold or too hot.

I published a blog post to my religious blog, whichwa, this morning and I must still post to my recipe blog.
I cooked chicken curry for dinner last night.  I so love being in a kitchen and cooking.  Last night's curry was one of those really simple curry sauce in a packet jobs.  It was delicious though.  No chutney is as good as Mrs. Balls chutney made in South Africa by SAD.  The chutney in England has a "different"  flavour even though it had basically the same ingredients.  (must be the sunshine, but the chutney was made in India, the one I had with my  Curry's at my aunty Margaret's home, in Scarborough, North England).

I finished my unpacking on Thursday and now only the memories of good times remain!  Till next time?

Unfortunately that is all for today's blog posting to these three blogs, yes it is the same text content I paste and copy, but do notice the subtle differences between my three daily blogs, alifenotlikeyours, myamazingjournee and dave-another blog?!?  The layout, and content?  It takes me an hour to type 1 small blog posting, it must be the bt thing that slowed me down!  Not complaining, my life has been amazing since 1997 the differences in my two lives, before 1997 and after are huge.  I never thought or wanted to have to take passenger disabilty when flying and did not until 3 years ago, it does help  tremendously though, when I get tired from anything I feel a bit unco-ordinated.  At my Aunty Mary's 60th party  in Leeds I had to retire to bed early and be a party pooper.  A cup of Coffee really helps me to restore my energy levels and re-awaken my brain which starts shutting down at night.  Anyway lets not bore my blog readers for today!

It's Friday!

Mom and I used this transfer service to the airport.  Usually we use Way2Go but they do not seem to exist anymore?  Cape Miller Tours is operated by the owner who used to work for a major Cape Town/South African tour company.  She is such a lovely lady and seeing as she was super, like I told her at the Airport last month, I have put her details on my blog postings!  Always honour your word?

A Delicious microwave burger I got from Albert  Heijn

My train tickets from Leeds to Scarborough and a photo of the interior of Thomson's new Boeing 787 Dreamliner from a Thomson broucher.  The train is more comfortable?  I think Boeing Aircraft are not as comfortable as Airbus Aircraft.  Let the newer kids on the block take over Boeing?  Maybe the 787 is better than the 777?  I find Airbus aircraft more spacious.  That is my personal opinion so nobody send me mail!  Pleeze???
Hi all!  How is your Friday?

It has been raining most of today here in Bloubergstrand today.   There was a bit of sun this morning but it only shone for about an hour or two.  Very much like European weather today, it is not as cold though, so that is one advantage!  No?

While I was in England I got to meet my Grandmother's sister, yes she is still alive but unfortunately my Grand Mother died in 1987 from heart complications.  We (my Aunty Margaret and I) went to visit my Uncle Kevin, who is my Grand Mother's brother.  He, Uncle Kevin, lives in Selby, where my mother and her family all lived, when she was a little girl.  We (Aunty Margaret, Uncle Kevin and I) had lunch in a furniture shop, Wetherell's, they have a nice restaurant in the shop!  Afterwards we went to visit my Grand mother's sister in the old age home where she lives.  She was very bright and I did not want to leave as I know that, that was the last sister to my Grandmother and one of the last siblings of hers who is still with us!  I really do believe in a heaven/after life.  We are all energy and we have to go somewhere?  Is the after life like we are told, you get to see those who have passed over to the other side once more?  I do hope so!

and once more?

A Super Bistro!

My packaging from my inflight meal on my KLM flight home yesterday

Lufthansa's October uniform for it's Cabin Crew and a photo from a brochure I picked up in a travel agent in England when changing money!

All in the wording?  It sounds like this wallet is for classic black men only!?!  From my KLM Holland Herald Magazine yesterday.

Hi folks!  How are y'all this Thursday.

It is a sunny and warm here today in Bloubergstrand.  I left a cold and wet Amsterdam yesterday morning and 11 hours and 15 minutes later landed in Cape Town.  We  (the passengers on my flight) got offered a mint on a tray prior to landing in Cape Town, yesterday.  I have mentioned how I like it when airline's serve sweets shortly before landing.  A sweet ending to your flight?  I guess KLM do read my blog postings?!? It shows that they do on my blog stats and I did get a mail from one of their employees confirming my suspicion once.  Apparently they do like my blog?!?

Romeo, next door's cat was here at around 7am this morning.  He was really pleased to see me, unless of course his purring and rubbing up against my legs for a long time is indicative of something else?  And we had absolutely no cat food around when he was doing all this cat-human affection stuff.  No cat food in my home at all until we bought him a bag of Friskies when shopping at Pick 'n Pay, Melkbos, this afternoon.

There was not much food for humans in my home after a month in Europe.  We did not want mice, it was winter when we left. It is Spring now!  Yeeha.  How people can survive the weather in winter in Europe is something else.  It was cold and rained most days during my trip to the Netherlands and England.  There is so much more space and less people in Africa, no hustle and bustle or cramming into packed public transport.  A lady and her husband assisted me onto the train when we left Santpoort for Amsterdam one evening.  Why did I put that on my blog post for today?  When people do random acts of kindness in the world of today it always makes my day.  Boy am I sad but pleasantness and assisting your neighbour is not very common in this world of today?!?

Anyway I am all typed out and still a bit jet lagged from yesterday's flight.

Have a fantastic day further peeps.
